North Dakota Tribes Seek Tunica Casino License

Two North Dakota American Indian tribes, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians based in Rolette County, North Dakota, and the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, are among several bidders for gaming licenses to operate the proposed Myriad World Resorts in Tunica, Mississippi.

The $1.9 billion development from Myriad World Entertainment and Resorts entails a casino resort that will feature a climate controlled, fully enclosed 18-hole, covered golf course and botanical gardens.

The two Indian tribes have both published a notice in the local newspaper The Tunica Times that they are planning to seek a casino gaming license.

Myriad World Entertainment and Resorts has an agreement to sell three separate casino parcels that are part of its 540-acre development. The company is also planning on closing on the sales by June 1, 2007 according to information posted on its website.

Site approval is expected to be sought by the group at the Mississippi Gaming Commission's July or August meeting.

The management of Myriad World Entertainment and Resorts have told the Mississippi Gaming Commission in March that they included it in their plans for the resort to eventually include six casinos in addition to the one which they already hold a license to operate.
