Public Opinion Sought on Casino Limits

A public meeting is scheduled on Thursday August 17th on which the West Warwick residents are encouraged to give their zoning and restriction ideas on the Harrah's Entertainment plan to create a casino in the area.

The projected casino would rise in the state industrial park.

The scheduled two hour meeting is set to start at 6:30 in the evening at the cafeteria of Deering Middle School. The forum was scheduled as the town continues to discuss with Harrah's the casino venture will ultimately depend on the outcome of the referendum in November.

Wolfgang Bauer, town manager, said that the meeting does not intend to be an announcement board on the casino proposal but according to him the forum was called to see whether the controls to implement the project will push through.

The architectural firm, Goody, Clancy and Associates representative will conduct the public forum.

Councilman Peter F. Calci Jr said that the forum is open to all residents but he instructed that the one hundred households within the one thousand feet of the prospective casino site to be informed by mail.

According to Mr. Calci Jr, any good suggestions by the residents might be included in the contract that they will negotiate with Harrah's Entertainment.
